Ha!

Same for Arizona TJs. Their parking lots give me anxiety.

They actually seek out locations that have “insufficient” parking. The reality is that most building codes require far more parking spots than are necessary for daily business. Rather, they require building for a handful of days during the year (if that).

When you look at parking malls for the most extreme example of this, there are hundreds of spots that are dead space, and that’s land that could serve better purposes.

Here’s the thinking behind Trader Joe’s parking principles.

Since Trader Joe’s is paying for that parking whether it’s used or not, they’re trying to maximize their investment by not giving more than is absolutely necessary for the space needed.

After all, if you got to other supermarkets, you’ll see plenty of spots all over the place except for a few select days of the year (Super Bowl, before holidays, etc.) and at most other times, the parking lots are well below capacity.
