In the olden days when I went to the opera with my late husband (he was the opera buff!), there were short/quick lines for the men’s room while we women had to wait forever. They eventually remodeled the women’s room, tripled the number of stalls, and suddenly the long, slow lines were a thing of the past. It does typically take longer for women and so for theaters and other venues where there is a large attendance, it makes sense to have single gendered facilities.
