One is a long range outlook, while short term doesn’t jibe. Funny, but even Obama is downplaying the fact that the recession is over (via Newsweek, which Obama slammed for its cover saying that the recession is over).

For every data point that you say shows that the economy is perking up, I could find one that shows things are getting worse - or not improving.

The single biggest factor showing that the economic outlook is poor - the booming and looming federal deficit. At some point, those who extended credit to the US will come a calling, and that will mean inflation is a distinct possibility.
