Rright” and “left” are arbitrary designations based on the seating arrangements of the French parliament in the 19th century. Just like pink and blue are arbitrary designations of male and female according to current taste.

Yeah I am aware of the origins. I should note though that one difference between the traditional European right and American right is that the former was sympathetic and some degree still is sympathetic to monarchism. We’ve never really had any prominent monarchists in this country. I think that’s what made fascism different from traditional European conservatism, it wasn’t monarchist though fascists like Franco relied on the support of monarchists in their rise to power.
