There’s a phrase for policies like this. Pointlessly cruel. Meals on Wheels, PBS, breakfasts for poor kids, etc are NOT why we have a deficit. As already said, it’s always programs like this that need to be cut when we need to “tighten our fiscal belt” but never ever the military industrial complex. We already spend by far more money in the world than any other country on defense and I’m not even really objecting to that necessarily but objecting to the fact that other things always come on the chopping block before that.

It’s not pointlessly cruel when the cruelty is the point.
