“Begging for crumbs at best (and yes, it is important to people who need jobs, I get that). But look at WI and Foxcon. That is costing taxpayers more than the jobs will ever be worth to the state as a whole.”

Our state’s largest newspaper, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, had a big story a few years ago about the millions GOPers in the general assembly have handed out to corporations that haven’t fulfilled their end of the bargain in business deals. In some cases, corporations have taken the money and then moved out of the state. According to state law, when this happens, the corporations are supposed to return some of that money to the state, but that has never happened. When AJC journalists questioned GOP pols about making these corporations return the millions they owe us, all they were told was that these lawmakers are in the “process” of “pursuing” the return of these fund. They’re lying. They’re making zero effort to hold these corporations accountable for anything. Hell, our governor Nathan Deal [R] sold his salvage yard to an out-of-state company that owes the state of GA millions in back taxes. When he was first asked about this, he said he wasn’t “getting involved” in the matter. The second time he was asked about it, he said the GA Dept. of Revenue would be “investigating” the matter. To my knowledge, Copart still hasn’t paid the back taxes it owes. This matter was first brought to citizens’ attention in 2013, and it made no difference because Deal was reelected by a wide margin.
