The fear/assumption that something like this could happen, the idea that the US would abandon them and obstruct their efforts to do their own economic development (we told them at the time it was paranoia) … is exactly why FALN had so much support (including violent, terrorist support) in the 1940’s-19780’s.

I still have to wonder how much of this is active neglect and how much is simply incompetence and cluelessness.
