I’m no civil engineer and I’m almost positive this has already or is already being looked at but if we can use huge fucking pipelines to send oil all around the country, could we possibly use similar pipelines to transport freshwater?
My area has had record rainfall this year, It’d be neat if there was a way to export some of that water to places that need it if the technology existed.
For agricultural or industrial purposes, sure - I’m sure there are logistical difficulties with the choice of material; iron or steel pipes would rust quickly and become a maintenance nightmare, and PVC has its own problems. However, I don’t think it’s feasible to transport clean drinking-quality water over such long distances via pipeline.
