Competent perhaps, but lacking in any charisma or broad appeal.

The GQP field in 2016 was split between “competent but boring” and “total assholes.”

As noted above, Jeb was the “heir apparent” who was supposed to “Dubya but smarter.”

Kasich was “McCain, but without the war record.”

Christie was supposed to be “the asshole who Dems could work with.”

Cruz was “your racist uncle in a cheap suit.”

And Rubio was “the young kid trying to pad his resume.”
