AQ Khan is seen as a hero to many Pakistanis for creating the Pakistani nuclear program. This was to be expected given that Pakistan had been pushing in this direction for years. They had no problem looking the other way as Khan’s network proliferated nuclear tech and designs around the world to regimes like North Korea, Libya, and Iran. The IAEA didn’t crack that case, and still hasn’t done anything to stop the Iranian program.
