Yeah.

I get into discussions with the ‘But they’re good people’ folks every so often - you know, the ones who say, “They voted for him because he gave them hope!”, and I’m sorry, but I really can’t cut them any slack. Trump is such an obvious, transparent, clumsy con man that I can’t really feel any sympathy for anyone dumb enough to have been taken in.

It’s the same thing with “Trump voters are either racist, or okay with racism”. One of my friends objected, saying that some of them weren’t okay with racism, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. To my mind, that’s not really different.

Republicans and Republican-leaning independents have a lot of practice in making such rationalizations when voting for racists from a racist party.
