I still wonder how big that base truly is. According to wikipedia, Trump only got 44% of the primary vote, and my guess is that number was bumped up from late primaries where the writing was on the wall and only a token opposition remained. I mean, if the early primaries only had 4-5 candidates instead of 15, would it have turned out differently?

That said, my point was more about how someone in the (vice-)president’s position should be acting. I don’t expect that kind of action from this group because they are morons, but also because they are tone deaf to anything other than the 28% that will support them no matter what.

Trump is far more popular with Republicans than any other Republican, so his white nationalist base is the most powerful faction in GOP politics. Pence doesn’t care what a VP should do; he is focused on what he has to do to win their support for his future presidential run.
