What this op-ed also is is the confirmation of what many “serious” conservatives assured themselves would be the reality of a Trump presidency, namely that his worst impulses would be kept in check by his advisors and thus he’d become “presidential” by letting them run the show.

But since that never really happened, they’re prepared to settle for his underlings taking control away from him so he can be free to scream and rant to anybody who will listen.
