The legacy of the “Lost Cause” was convincing generations of dimwitted Southerners that their ancestors were noble gentlemen fighting for a worthwhile cause of “protecting” their homes…rather than a bunch of racist bastards who felt that if they couldn’t be allowed to keep human beings in bondage then they didn’t want to be Americans anymore.

As far as I’m concerned, you forfeit your right to talk about patriotism if you venerate that flag. Nathan Bedford Forrest among others only served the CSA and dreaded the CSA losing because they hated the Union so much. They weren’t proud Americans.
