It’s the down side. I really do have some old friends who became that twisted up bitter old man they used to laugh at. And, they can’t see themselves. I’ve held off contacting some older friends who I haven’t seen in decades, because a part of me says, “let sleeping dogs lie.”

I am sure that a lot of those people who stayed in Northwest Indiana where I grew up have turned out to be the very sort of people that Trump and the GOP appeal to: bitter, alienated and clinging to rose-tinted memories of “better days”…
