Chemnitz is turning into an ugly stain. And in the end, it is only going to strengthen the hand of the extreme right AfD party.

Right now, they are large enough to make Germany ungovernable by anything but a Grand Coalition of the two “centrist” parties, but they are losing so much ground that the next government will have to include the AfD or go full Weimar Republic.

If I’m not mistaken, the AfD’s stronghold is largely the former DDR - they don’t perform so well in what used to be West Germany (with the exception of Bavaria, IIRC)
