re: #17 mmmirele

I managed to upset a bunch of people I normally ally with on sexual abuse issues by stating my considered opinion that Satanic Ritual Abuse does not exist. I carefully pointed out that I did not doubt sexual abuse happens, it’s just there is simply no evidence to support the grandiose claims of SRA proponents.

I’d note that Barbara is wrong on the origins of “conspiracy theory,” which apparently was first used in the 1800s but really entered the language after JFK’s assassination, and was specifically related to that event. Not to child sexual abuse.

Oh well. I’m not here to make people happy.

I would only note that I have never seen a successful prosecution (not overturned) for SRA, but I can think of thousands of cases of Christian abuse by priests, pastors, ministers, youth ministers, and other people in power in almost any Christian denomination you would care to mention.

Satanists, wherever and however many there are in this country, don’t seem to be the problem. I’ve never met one, but I’ve have seen innumerable sky pilots, convinced of the power in their One True God and his grace, who will excuse almost any outrage committed by members of their flock against defenseless children.

Outrageous. Disgusting. Immoral. Yet, somehow, defensible because they were “men of God”.

Go figure. If Jesus saw what was happening in his name, He wouldn’t be capable of stop throwing up.
