Coal plants will continue to get shuttered because it’s cheaper to convert to natural gas and it’s less burdensome to meet emissions goals and for storage on site (hint - all you need is pipeline connection, not a coal-yard to store the coal, along with the access - either barge or rail). It’s far cheaper to build new gas fired plants, because they can fit on a smaller plot than a coal plant.

Yeah, but nobody told Kentucky and the other miners. They are retrofitting a coal power plant here to gas and it’s freaking huge. And they are going to put another plant next to it. I think I’m outside the blast zone. Half kidding.
