The strictly pious, loosing their shit and going homicidal for a glass of water. The junkie, in a forced absence of junk and everything else, doing something to help others for a change. The disaffected person who laments “So it’s zombies now? Meh, fuck it. Not like my life could get any worse, right”?

And a whole host of other human foibles and triumphs.

I will bag on Stephen King a lot for his idiosyncrasies. He has many. But one thing he gets right is the strangely (sometimes disturbingly) detailed character development.

If the real Running Man (another “Bachmann book”) had got made into a movie, it could have been a classic, depending on the people involved.

Not that I don’t like the Ahnold go-go-action version, but as the original story was written, it’s deep and depressing as hell.
