When you compare religious offense to insults to one’s mother, and say that it’s normal to punch in that situation - all in context of the murder for cartoons - you’re an asshole. You may say however many times you like that “it’s wrong to rape”, but if you’re adding “but you shouldn’t have wore that mini-dress” in the same breath, you’re an asshole.

It’s one thing to say as the pope did that CH was acting like a bunch of disrespectful jerks, its another to say that they should be killed for it.
