I think I ran across the quote here, but why is it that people who totally fail to understand what terms like manhood/womanhood, patriotism or faith mean are the ones who cling most tenaciously to the arbitrary and superficial symbols we attach to those categories? (guns, beards, flag lapel pins, crucifixes, etc…)
I find that people who can handle ambiguity and be comfortable with it are happier and more well-adjusted to life, because life is full of ambiguities.
