However, regular train services have had horrible accidents killing many people.
While I was living in Japan, west of Osaka (between Osaka and Kobe) there was a horrendous accident.
The real problem is that the drivers were made to go too quickly, to make schedule.
Trains in Japan are almost always exactly on time.
I think I know about the accident you’re talking about….it was on Seconds From Disaster or one of those shows. Long story short, the train in question was already a bit behind schedule due to operator error in overshooting a platform earlier in the route; the train driver panicked and tried to make up for lost time. He went too fast going into a curve, which caused the train to derail and it plowed into a building causing several fatalities and numerous injuries.
