We fucked things up in El Salvador during the Reagan years because Reagan and his team knew little about the people in Latin America and nor did they really care, they just cared about sticking it to the Soviets. If you worship the altar of Reagan, shut the hell up about people coming from “shitholes”, your favorite President supported a lot of these policies that have hurt these countries. And Haiti and I appreciate Katz pointing this out to me because I did not know this, nearly every major power refused to trade with them after their independence from the French and they spent many years paying off the French government. Too much of white America has no idea or worse no desire to learn about the history of the countries around us. Maybe if we did, we’d understand why things are the way they are.
