While the police might be technically correct, this law’s “and/or” clause is so overly broad that it would ban any knife with a bias towards closure, which is damned close to every folding knife on the market right now. The only ones it would allow are friction folder designs such as the traditional Opinel or Higo No Kami.

What was their probable cause for searching for the knife in the first place? How did they know he had a knife? Why did they suspect a closed knife in a pocket might be an illegal type?
