The GOP was actually running no one in that district — which allowed a Nazi to win the GOP nomination. Parties don’t really have control of who can run in a primary, assuming they meet the qualifications which normally involves getting a certain number of signatures. It reflects on the people of the district willing to vote for him, more than the party.
