I dunno: ISTM that Roberts’ issues with a lot of the Trump Administration’s bullshit isn’t so much that it IS bullshit, but that (at least AFAICT) a lot of the cases the Admin has pushed up to the SC have been badly framed, blatantly political, and terribly argued. And one thing CJ Roberts really cares about is that stuff is done “by the book”

The recent DACA case is typical: I really doubt that Roberts - or any of the conservative Justices - give a flying fuck about the DACA recipients, or would care in the least if they were all rounded up and deported tomorrow. But they got a “reprieve” because (and IMO, only because) the Trump Admin, in its usual manner, fucked up its process while trying to cancel the program. Which error, I read, they are already moving to correct. Which I hope gets sidetracked by lawsuits and put off til after the election: since I have no doubts that Roberts would - even if “regretfully” - sign off on the DACA folks being arrested, shoved into cattle cars and dumped in the desert en masse, as long as the legal “i’s” were dotted and the “t’s” crossed….
