He was married, but his wife tragically died in childbirth (twins!). It’s been a couple years so he’s ready to love again (and the twins are cute toddlers, don’t need diaper changes). And workaholic-tried-to-escape-small-town-life has a new trope this year, now that she can work from home and be a stay-home mom at the same time.

Nah, he’s actually secretly wealthy because of dead parents/financial genius/etc but is supposed to contrast with the workaholic because he chose to live a simple life in the small town and is happier for it. Bonus points if the two were childhood sweethearts broken apart when she decided to leave home to seek out opportunities in the city because the only options in town were “work in the family business” or “homemaker.”
