Win8 is designed for use with touchscreens.

Unfortunately, Microsoft forgot that MOST OF US DON’T HAVE THOSE YET. And nor do I want one on my desktop.

Fortunately I have enough Win7 licenses to last for a few years yet.

Yes it is, and yes most of us don’t, today, on our desktops.

Thing is I don’t think desktops are going to be common choices for most users within a handful of years. And I think between kinect and leap motion, de facto touchscreens are going to be common for the desktops that are left.

I think that Microsoft had a window of opportunity where it could lead into that future, setting standards by its very size, or it could follow. For a change, it led.

Where I suspect this whole thing’s going to get real interesting is when the Bay Trail Atoms come out. Not for the obvious reason (a tablet chip that’ll handle 64 bit). No, but because it’ll mean the Clover Trails will drop a lot in price, leading to what I call $200 tablets. Probably a bit more, but still extremely inexpensive but solid non-cutting edge tablets.
