re: #192 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

So what happens if, by some chance, the GOP splits (or the Dems, FTM) into two factions, with the smaller representing, say, 27% of the original party membership. The current apportionment system presumes there are only two parties worth worrying about. What happens if this hypothetical third party survives the split? It’s going to want a say in the apportionment process, too.

If you think apportionment of electoral districts is crazy now with two parties duking it out, just imagine how insane three parties would be.

Proportional representation could eliminate the constant efforts to gerrymander districts to benefit one party or the other.

I think that a key benefit of a multi-party system would be that Congress would no longer be divided between “us” and “them”, and since “them” are evil people bent on the destruction of America as we know it, there can be no compromise. Three or more major parties could reintroduce the art of negotiation and compromise to Congress.
