I don’t see that argument netting any votes during a re-election fight though. It’s inherently defeatist and I’d argue not even really defensibly pragmatic when the real and probably better alternative is to just keep voting Trump’s nominees down and leave the CIA under the leadership of an Acting Director.

It’s the difference between “She’s a bad candidate who was approved by a bipartisan majority” and “He’s an absolute shit candidate who the Republicans own entirely.” I would rather the GOP be stuck owning that “worse” candidate” because Yertle twisted their arms than be stuck owning Haspel because “She’s the best we can get.”
Those are both fair points. Like I said, I wouldn’t have voted for her if I was there. But I can see how a Senator could come to that conclusion.
