I always felt more to the right among some of my former college classmates. And even then I never met any honest to god communists. Socialists, yes but never a full out communist who thinks Stalin got a big deal. I’ve encountered a handful of Stalinists online. I think I’d probably a centrist at Kos. I’m definitely pretty left wing but I’m also practical.

Probably the biggest reason why I don’t feel like I fit in over there (I have lurked occasionally but not regularly at this point, because of things like that).

I’m a realist. Part of that means recognizing where compromise needs to happen in order to allow the bigger picture goals to move forward.

I mean sure, I would have loved universal health care. But the ACA is a whole lot better than what we had, and it was something that could actually happen. I’d love to see more forward progress on this issue, but for millions of Americans this was a HUGE step forward.
