More seriously, I recently read some of the malleus maleficarum and it read like something straight out of 40k, it was rather disturbing how closely GW’s fluff matches historical precedent.

Nothing weird about it. They borrow shamelessy for back story.

The name of the Night Lord Primarch, Konrad Curze, is a combination of Joseph Conrad and his famous work Heart of Darkness, of which Kurtz is a central character. The Night Lords’ homeworld of Nostramo is also named after another of Conrad’s books, Nostromo. His assassin was named M’Shen, who they admitted was short for Martin Sheen, for his role in Apocalypse Now.

Then we have the grenade called “The Holy Orb of Antioch”.
