re: #188 Stanley Sea
Bryer’s ice cream did the big rip off.
Breyer’s was my favorite ice cream growing up. My parents liked the “all natural” aspect and I liked the taste and mouth-feel (though I didn’t know about mouth-feel back then). Then Breyer’s got bought by a big conglomerate, which also bought Ben & Jerry’s. Big conglomerate decided it should only offer one premium ice cream, so that breyer’s and B&J would not compete against each other. So, Breyer’s went cheap: no more all natural, no more simple ingredients — just more fillers, emulsifiers, and what not.
Now Breyer’s is really no different from any store brand ice cream, but I reckon people buy it because like me they grew up with fond memories. Brand loyalty.
