re: #211 Charmingly Persistent

Ok, then, you get to complain. :-)

I personally am in favor of impeachment now. But I don’t think Nancy Pelosi can or should lead the charge. She is good at vote counting and getting things through the last few hurdles. She is not good at convincing people to support things. Her charisma is -27 - and I like her.

Getting things through the last few hurdles means convincing people to support things, and horse trading. She also counts the votes and know how to whip the caucus.

Right now, not enough Democrats are behind impeachment. She knows it. Even if the House impeaches, what does that get Democrats. It opens up risks (acceptable IMO, but she thinks there’s downside to it - and it’s her job to look at that too).

I think she’s playing it too safe, but that’s where AOC, Lieu, Schiff, and others can lead on getting the facts/evidence out there to make the case for impeachment. It’s also on constituents to demand their reps to get behind impeaching Trumpworld.

I’ve written to my Congressional caucus - Booker, Menendez, and Gottheimer, to get behind impeachment to protect the rule of law and that we need to hold all the GOP responsible for the endless criminality emanating from Trumpworld. Complicity and conspiracy against the US. Trump’s emoluments. Trump’s obstruction of justice. All of it.

This has to happen. Even if the House impeaches, the Senate will likely kill it - but that’s where holding the GOP responsible for enabling Trump has merit. There are enough GOPers running for reelection and who’d be smeared with Trump’s toxic criminality that it may sway things in to 2020 - allowing the Democrats to retake the Senate. Maybe not enough to get to 60, but enough to send McConnell packing.

And only then can we start cleaning up this mess, which will take a generation or more to achieve.
