re: #214 Charmingly Persistent
I suspect this varies a lot by school district. My kids took APUSH (AP U.S. History I think) and learned way more about U.S. history than I ever did. Not just facts and dates either - analysis and lines of argument and thought. I can’t speak for what kids in less funded and more conservative areas are learning, but blue suburban schools aren’t messing around - if only because they want their kids to get into good colleges.
It does vary. My brother got a much better education about Latin American history than I did. I did end up taking a class on that region as a whole in college but I was a history major too. And I am biased but I think history majors are undervalued in our economy and society.
