Are the two variants of Portuguese that different that you would have difficulty communicating?
Not that I know jack about the language, but I thought it was more an issue of “accent” (and the inevitable colloquialisms) - rather like, say, American vs. British vs. Australian English.
mutually intelligible, I’m sure, but very much fear the continentals would think I sounded like a redneck. I guess that would probably get better over time, but once you’ve committed stuff to muscle memory, it’s hard to undo. Hard to know whether “mueentue ahbrigadue” makes one sound like a complete ponce in Lisbon.
