I have been rationing my LGF time for this very reason.

I get feeling horrible, I am right there with you.

We are entitled to process this in our own way…but when it comes to doom and gloom or (even worse) paranoid fantasy, I will find something better to do.

We mock Fox News for the endless outrage and yet fail to recognize when we’re at risk of falling into the same cycle - not necessarily that the outrage isn’t justified here, but as scenarios become more and more extreme, stuff that previously seemed out there becomes normal. We know this. We’re talking about it all the time in terms of what the media is doing.

That’s dangerous. Both from a mental health perspective (again, because despair does not generally inspire one to get up and go and do) but also from a talking with people outside the group perspective. Because you arrived at a point incrementally along with the rest of the group, following a logical progression, it seems obvious. But then you mention it to someone outside the group and it’s going to look like it’s coming out of left field, and you’re going to have to do a fair amount of scrambling not just to convince them but to re-establish your credibility in the first place. Not really the best use of time and something that can be, to some extent, guarded against by making sure you’re not falling into a cycle of self-reinforcement.
