A smart man will probably reject doing something like grifting and conning. They would see it as below them and below the use of their intelligence. Morals and high standards would get in the way.

Sorry, but I have to call total BS on this. In my experience intelligence and morals aren’t linked in any way. Some times really smart people try to figure out how to get by with as little effort as possible, if that means running a con so be it.
