Respectfully I have come to a slightly different conclusion about the GOP. Just from my perspective as a Republican exile now with no affiliation-The GOP needs to fight for it’s heart and center. I think they need to forcefully engage & kick the Tea Party in the ass. Completely. For a time, anger those people. Look, they are not going to go libertarian, certainly not Democratic. They have no other party to vote at all. there is no equivalent of the Green or Peace and Freedom parties on the right. Let the theocrats not have a party.

Return to sanity. Put an end to the anti Roe v Wade influence, boot those who say god before the law. Reach out to the smaller gov fiscal cons. They can be resolved into a moderate right wing party. The party of Lugar, Huntsman etc. I’m not holding my breath. But that’s my thoughts for them.

Look I’m done with parties. If the GOP keeps the TP it will fall. Become a little regional party unable to prevail in the WH or Senate. Fine with me.

I believe better opposition makes for a better administration. My message to the GOP would be as above. I’m not rejoining. But if Huntsman had been the man yesterday, he might (never got the general election vetting) have gotten my vote. If I was Obama, I’d think to myself how lucky I was the GOP put up such a buffoon. ‘Cause i would know that I might have lost. I’d know how bad that would have been. And not just personally either.

Sleep well and congratulations Mr President. Your Democratic successor may well face a better opponent than you did. We will all be better off if so.
