Thrift stores can be your friend. I found a brand new Bodum french press (sold by Starbucks since their brand was also on the thing), 32 oz size, for $3. In fact, am drinking a cup right now (I use it in the afternoons and the electric drip in the am—bigger). I gave the Ikea press I also had scored at the thrift store for $2 to a friend.

I would use anything but Starbucks coffee in it, though. : )

Yup. We got ours for that at the rescue pound thrift store. Use only plain old Chock Full O’ Nuts—NY nostalgia.
