Intersectionality isn’t exactly a new word, and I think it’s probably a helpful concept for the progressive movement. What the other sites I read were critical about was that it seemed Arquette didn’t think that POC and the LGBTQ communities were not already acting on behalf of women, literally because of intersectionality. So her comment was seen as ‘All y’all need to start looking out for white women.’ She probably didn’t intend that, so I’m sure she wouldn’t be upset for someone to point it out to her. Her twitter defenders went to the ‘well I’ve been helping YOU PEOPLE for so long route’, which then made me go get the popcorn. I actually saw an allegedly long time progressive claim she had never benefited from white privilege, or if she had it was unintentional. She ended up having to delete the comments on that post.
