The other thing to remember, too - and this was pointed out upthread - is that it’s not just getting it right on abortion. It is possible for a Democrat to win the approval of the evangelicals over a Republican, but because the Republicans made a conscious choice to court the religious right, they have a much lower bar to clear. It makes it so much more complicated in places where the line between Democrat and Republican is blurred or even reversed.

TBH from the outside looking in, I was shocked how rapidly they embraced Trump as one of their own. I thought there’d be that residing mistrust we saw with McCain and Romney but then again he won and I’m sure had they won, they’d embrace them too.
