As LGF’s (self-designated) Cynical Bastard, I’m sort of struggling to see how. Maybe in the long term this will hurt them after the midterms if Dems manage to hold Congress and expand their Senate majority by a minimum of 2 seats. But if we lose either or both houses of Congress, then we’re gonna be waiting until at least 2025 before we can begin to work in earnest to undo the damage done tonight.

Realistically, I’d say what we’re going to see for at least the next two years is an increasingly balkanized situation where states feel free to pass or ban basic human rights within their own borders.

Not just that, but we’re already seeing just how many people are willing to hang the Dems dry for ‘not trying hard enough’ and thinking that the only way to teach those goddamn dirty Dems is to withhold their votes and punish them in 2022. All while the GOP will be further emboldened by seeing the pathway to their eternal conservatopia in reach, knowing that institutional power is going to be forever on their side when this shit happens.
