All too often that makes no difference.

I have a gay Republican buddy who is just like that: contrarian, cantankerous and ready to to take on anything he sees as “accepted policy”.

His parents were radical leftist college professors, so his way of rebelling against them was to be clean-cut and conservative. Yet he somehow still reconciles his Conservative faith with the fact that he is married to a man who he would not be able to be legally married to if the GOP had its way.
