They are waltzing around the argument that they want laws that reflect (their interpretation of their choice of) Holy Scripture.

With the glaring exception of the Catholic church practically no one believed that life began at conception even 40 years ago. The “scriptures” sure don’t say that unless you willfully misinterpret some and ignore others completely.

This pretty much all began with the early “Religious Right” movement when they needed issues to attempt to unite their base. Jerry Falwell is probably the single largest offender in this sudden reinterpretation of biblical knowledge. He adopted the Catholic stance wholesale in order to gain their support politically and socially.

Suddenly Falwell was out proclaiming that “life begins at conception” from the rooftops and his flock of sheeple and other movement leaders followed his lead. I even have some quotes here somewhere from a couple of other big name clerics who tried it earlier, but just couldn’t get many people to care. It took Falwell to start the ball rolling… :(
