If you want to argue that McCain paved the way for Trump, I won’t argue. Just a different perspective. The bigger point is that the GOP establishment is directly responsible for why Trump has been able to flourish in right wing circles due to their own actions and cowardice.

I’m not that big on finding *the* starting point. It’s fun to debate here. And I think we should take note of points of progress and regression of course.

One thing that really has given me pause though was McCain dying because it was such a stark reminder about how important one’s VP choice can be. That heartbeat away shit is so real. His choice (regardless how he got there) was so bad that he knew it would haunt him, and all of us really.
