If the past few weeks have been any indication, the answer appears to be “Yes.” Even blue and purple state govs are so desperate to get their economies going again that they’re gambling that masks and social distancing will get them through the summer if not the rest of the year. But they’re also bowing to pressure and treating both as a suggestion, leading to the impression that the outbreak is “over” or at least in remission so everybody can go on summer vacation.

The problem is, the Republicans are turning the pandemic into a political game. They are putting the pressure on the Democratic administrations, and the Dems know that they cannot afford to fail this fall. We need a solid, unified, Democratic majority in 2021 to fix what the fat orange fuckface has destroyed, and we all know it. So they’re doing what they can to be safe and reasonable while keeping the Republicans in check, so that we can have a future in 2021 to look forward to.
