I get that, but why do the criminals have stronger or better weapons than the good guys? This is a big part of my personal struggle with gun ownership in the USA, today.

The reason the bad guys have stronger or better weapons than the good guys is because for the good guys the best of all possible situations is to go in and have everybody come out alive, even the bad guys.

On the other hand the bad guy’s best possible situation when getting into a gunfight is to get out with only them left alive.

Thus the two sides tend to go in having selected weapons which best suit their respective needs.
