Glad to see Macron won; a big sigh of relief.

There was another, smaller election today as well, in Germany, where Merkel’s party did very well - it looks like Angela Merkel may well be on her way to a fourth term as Chancellor.

Germany has an annoyingly decentralized system of elections, there are always some sort of local or state elections going on here. (Three state elections this year and the National elections in September, but that does not count the local and regional ones, or the mayoral elections in various towns and cities)

But for that, there are no issues with voter registration: everyone has a (mandatory) ID, and a single registered address.

You just show up at your local polling place (which is often the pub in smaller villages),
and they check your name off a list. You are already registered.
