re the butterfly ballot:

at the time of voting it was merely…annoying
i didnt think “omg this is gonna confuse a lot of people”

this was my first presidential election in florida
my history was NY with the curtained voting machines and the levers

i just assumed it was the same everywhere

so i walk into..wherever and vote in this cubicle then get in line and place the ballot in a box with a padlock on it

i walked outside and called my brother, still in NY and said voting down here is like a banana republic but without the armed guards watching.

then everything went haywire with the counting, hanging chads, bush v gore, etc
